Angel and Lulu live together, move in the same social scenes, and constantly work on music together. In the last half-year, they poured their energy into “Hearth Room,” set to come out this fall. While their past music has often been discussed in relation to the internet and hyperpop, their forthcoming album is a departure from the digital, a sonic touching of grass.
The photoshoot shows them post-punkily American, somehow innocent in their bad statement hoodies and dysmorphic clothes. It’s a functional and functioning dysfunction that seems very American and always intriguing and unsettling. As it should be.
